To search for articles, enter your keywords in PrimoSearch and limit results to just articles by clicking Show only < Peer-reviewed journals on the left.
A number of journal articles will be listed.
Scroll through until you find one that suits your topic and click View Online or click the cover of the journal.
choose a database
You will be given one, or a selection of databases to choose from. You may even find we have the journal in the library as a print copy on the shelves.
In the example on the left, the journal JAMA: the Journal of the American Medical Association, is available through the database ProQuest and is also available as a print copy in the SAH (Sydney Adventist Hospital) library.
Click on a database and you will be taken straight to the article.
Using Journal titles a-z
Another useful way to search for journal articles is to use Journal Titles A-Z. This searches for a specific journal title, like Choice or Quadrant or The Historian and is a quick way to find a journal article your lecturer may have included on your Unit Outline.
Use Journal Titles A-Z to:
- search within a specific journal
- or to see which database the journal is in
- or to see if we even have that journal in the library
Journal Title (type in the name of the journal you are looking for)
Browse by title alphabetically (click on a letter of the alphabet to bring up all journals beginning with that letter)
Browse by subject (choose your subject area)
Find article (type in the name of the article if you know it)
which database will you choose?
If the library has access to the journal you are wanting it will list the databases that hold that journal.
In the example on the left, JAMA is available as a print copy from 1998 in the SAH library and is also available from the ProQuest database from 1998, but the most recent 6 months is not available.
Click on ProQuest to be taken to the online articles, or click on Print Holdings to be shown the call number for you to go to the shelves and retrieve the journal.
read the article
Once you have clicked on ProQuest, or whichever database you choose, you will be taken straight to the article.
The article may be available on the screen, or you may need to click Full text - PDF to read it.
You can email the article to yourself, print it, or save it on your computer.
If you are using EndNote, Zotero or Citavi you can download it straight into these programs.
